Student Welcome and Pitch to Peers Event

Wednesday 11th June 2025 | 1pm - 3:30pm | Great Hall

Please join us for the Student Welcome Event, hosted by the SARMAC Student Caucus at this year’s conference! This 2-hour session will take place from 1pm-3:30pm on Wednesday, June 11th, just before the opening ceremony at 5pm. The Welcome Event is designed to help students connect, meet new friends (especially if you're travelling solo!), and make the most of the conference experience.

We’ll kick things off with introductions from the Student Caucus members, so you know who you can approach during the conference to strike up a conversation! Next, we’ll dive into some small ice-breaker activities (we promise that they’ll be fun!) to give you the chance to meet fellow attendees.

The second half of the event features our “Pitch to Peers” session— just for students and ECRs. In small groups, students will have the opportunity to propose future projects, share new findings, or even practise presentation skills. You’ll have 5 minutes to pitch your idea and 5 minutes to receive feedback from your peers in an informal, supportive setting. It’s a great opportunity to gather insights, spark collaborations, and refine your research ideas.

Don’t forget to sign up using the link below! Even if your abstract isn’t accepted for SARMAC XV, or you have another project you’d like to gather insights on, you can still join the Pitch to Peers session to share your ideas with the student community—we’d be honoured to have you with us.

Lunch With Experts

Friday 13th June 2025 | 12:40pm - 1:50pm | Lockewood Suite

SARMAC XV continues the tradition of hosting a lunch with the experts, scheduled from 12:40pm-1:50pm on Friday 13th June. Students will have the opportunity to sit down, share some food, chat research, and pick the brains of some of memory and cognition’s brightest minds. Limited spaces will be available. If you would like to participate, there will be an option when registering for the conference to reserve a space, and the opportunity to indicate your preferred expert at a later date.

SARMAC Student Research Grant Awardees Symposium

Friday 13th June 2025 | 3:30pm - 4:50pm | Moore Abbey Suite

The Student Caucus will host a symposium during the conference to celebrate the three Student Research Grant Awardees. Please join us to listen to their fascinating research on filler similarity in police lineups, effects of multilingualism on preserving adult brain function, and public perceptions of criminal justice practitioners memory performance following secondary trauma. More details to follow on where and when this symposium will take place!

Invite an Expert to Your Poster

Friday 13th June 2025 | 7pm - 9pm | Thompson/Ainsworth Suite

Presenting a poster at a conference can be both exciting and nerve-wracking, whether it's your first time or you’re a seasoned presenter. The SARMAC Student Caucus is thrilled to offer the opportunity to Invite an Expert to Your Poster! During the poster session (7pm-9pm on Friday 13th June), you’ll have the option to invite leading experts in your area of memory and cognition to attend your poster, discuss your research, suggest future directions, and build valuable connections.

While we can’t guarantee that your selected expert will be available, we’ll do our very best to make it happen. Sharing your research is a rewarding experience, especially when you can engage with someone who shares your passion for the topic!

We wish you all the best—happy presenting!

Student Travel Grants

We are excited to announce that we will be offering a minimum of 6 awards to help students attend SARMAC XV in Kildare, Ireland, to present their work. Based on a recent survey, SARMAC student members indicated an overwhelming preference (73%) for the Travel Awards to provide partial attendance support that considers the location of the recipient. Therefore, the award for SARMAC XV will cover the overall conference fees (travel, accommodation, conference fees) at 75%. The maximum value of each award will be US$2000. More details are available in the Awards tab.
